Walk gently through the forest
'Neath the towering canopy of green
Disturbing not the brook fairies
Of love, light and lore
By the enchanted spring,
Mt. Apo's gift unto all.

ATBW Promotes A Green Tomorrow Today!

ATBW is actively promoting a green tomorrow today through projects and events which promise to have a great impact upon the environment. Nestled in the shadows of Mt. Apo, Ang Tribu Bagobo Woodlands is ideally situated to serve as a cultural heritage and research center, a place people may gather for festivals and events, to come together and share their tribal heritage with others, while enjoying nature. ATBW is striving to provide a rich natural experience for all tribal members, citizens, and visitors from afar such that all may benefit and enjoy nature while working to prosper from activities, events and ecocomerce. Here are a few project which ATBW is spearheading:

ATBW provides a great place for groups and organization to meet for conventions, workshops and other activities. Recently the Girl Scouts of the Philippines held their annual convention at ATBW. Girl scouts participated in reforestation activities planting trees to help regenerate deforested areas around Mt. Apo which were over-logged in the 20th Century. ATBW and Go Green are initiatives which are working to promote the recycling, preservation and conservation of our forests and natural resources. It is vital to our cultural heritage to preserve the treasured natural areas and work to regenerate forests that were lost due to improper management of resources. The need for such efforts was emphasized by recent storms which resulted in great flooding and impacted thousands of people, given extensive erosion that is due in large part to forests which were logged and not replanted. Through organizing and sponsoring efforts to plant trees ATBW is working to provide a green tomorrow that our children's children may benefit and enjoy.

ATBW RESORT -- The ATBW Resort is literally a piece of heaven on earth! The resort features rooms and accommodations amid a tropical paradise in the shadow of Mt. Apo. Included are swimming pools, nature trails and areas for meetings, recreation and camping. ATBW hosts special festivities and events throughout the year and brings the Ang Tribu people together to share their colorful culture and heritage with the greater community.

CINNAMON ORCHARD ESTABLISHED -- ATBW has established the first cinnamon tree orchard in Mindanao. Dr. Rodolfo Kintanar visited ATBW and helped with the introduction of hundreds of cinnamon trees which were successfully transplanted. Harvesting of cinnamon bark in the future will enable its marvelous and medicinal benefit to be enjoyed by the tribal people and inhabitants for many years to come.

GREENHOUSE & GARDENS -- With the completion of the greenhouse, ATBW is now working to create a tropical paradise of floral delight. In addition to the Poinsettias shown here, many flowering plants are being cultivated and planted in gardens throughout the resort area which also benefits indigenous species of insects. Over time ATBW hopes that floral beautification will enhance the experience of the environment for the many thousands of people who may come to ATBW to enjoy escaping to the mountains for relaxation and communion with nature. ATBW has also introduced The Majestic Purple Potatoes from Peru to serve as a dietary supplement for visitors to the resort and is creating garden areas and terraces to grow a wide variety of beneficial plants and vegetables.

Apo. Visitors to ATBW may walk down a tropical nature trail to the Spring of Enchantment, an ancient natural spring, that is truly a national treasure. Apo is the tribal lands of the Ang Tribu Bagobo people who believe that areas where fireflies occur are inhabited by fairies which should not be disturbed least they are angered which may result in foul water. The area is home to over 272 species of birds, including the The Philippine Eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi), also known as the Monkey-eating Eagle. ATBW has established a nature preserve that fireflies, birds and other small animals indigenous to the area may forever be preserved.

ATBW hosts festivals and events which exhibit tribal heritage and culture. We encourage everyone to attend, to enjoy the music, dance and other festivities. We also encourage everyone to take plenty of photographs of the people and nature. Anyone who wishes to submit photographs of people, flowering plants, insects or other small animals and plants is encouraged to do so; credit will be given to photographers. Please indicate the date and location (with GPS coordinates if known) where photographs are taken. Also of interest is people working and studying nature. Send photos to Mt. Apo

Now you can watch and feel the good vibrations of Mt. Apo courtesy of Bagobo Woodlands and the USGS seismometer in Davao City! Tribal people have a very spirital connection with Mt. Apo, which means "grandfather." When Mt. Apo rumbles they may take a pilgramage to the top of the mountain and sacrifice a chicken to calm the restless spirits. So far their sacraments have worked as there has not been an eruption of Mt. Apo in recorded history. Hence Bagobo Woodlands is a very safe place to visit. You may even be able to sense the seismic vibrations of Mt. Apo at the Spring of Enchantment as tiny waves ripple and resonate in the spring's basin set in the gully's rock wall which has sacred meaning to the tribal peoples.
